How to Baby Proof Your Relationship
Having a baby is a wonderful experience, however it can also add stress to a relationship. Even the best relationships can experience strain during the major life transition of bringing a child into the family. Whether it is your first child or your fourth, you may be in need of a refresher on how to maintain the love you have for one another.
This class will teach couples the skills needed to maintain healthy marriages, so that partners can avoid the pitfalls of parenthood. Often parents can feel isolated and lonely within their own relationship. Communication can be poor and becomes a low priority as most of your energy focuses on caring for your baby. Parents are often irritable, overly emotional and physically and mentally exhausted. Intimacy can become a thing of the past.
A couples’ relationship provides the foundation for your family. Physical exhaustion and perceived lack of partner support are two of the leading contributing factors to Perinatal Depression and Anxiety. Therefore, by strengthening your relationship, you are adding protective factors against mental health mood disorders during the Perinatal period.
In this class you will learn about the common mistakes that couples make as well as explore exercises that can help your relationship to master the transition into parenthood.
Transition to Parenthood – A Course for Expectant Parents
The transition to parenthood is a singularly momentous time in the lives of a couple, when mothers and father-to-be experience a myriad of emotions, sometimes contradictory, as they contemplate the unchartered territory ahead. This period presents a valuable opportunity for expectant couples to reflect on what parenthood will mean, how they will fulfill their roles as parents, and those values and practices they want most to incorporate in their parenting.
The nine months of pregnancy are not only a time of physical gestation for the child, but a time of important psychological and emotional gestation for the parents. Couples given the opportunity to examine and anticipate the issues involved can assume their new roles with more confidence, less stress, and more resilience in the face of the inevitable challenges to come.
More often than not, couples typically fail to prepare themselves for the enormous changes that lie ahead as they make the transition to parenthood. Very often our culture is seduced by the romantic notions and prevailing societal myths about motherhood; the myth of the maternal instinct, the myth of maternal bonding, and the fanciful belief that pregnancy and motherhood is a time of ultimate fulfillment. We are then devastated if our reality does not match what we envisioned.
This course will provide the opportunity for couples to explore the beliefs and expectations they have and help you make the most of this important time of psychological preparations. The sessions are devoted to exploring key questions about how parents feel about their pregnancy, labour and delivery, and how you can prepare themselves to meet the demands of the chaotic weeks and months postpartum.

The Happiest Baby on the Block
I am a certified The Happiest Baby on the Block Educator. This is a hands on practical application for parents to calm their fussy infants, including soothing techniques for high needs infants.
The Happiest Baby was developed by Pediatrician and child development expert, Dr. Harvey Karp. It has been researched empirically and has been featured on many programs such as Dr. Phil, The View, Larry King Live, Good Morning America and CNN to name a few.
Having a newborn is often a struggle and exhausting. This course is based on the novel concept that new babies are not fully ready for the world. In a way, they are born 3 months early and need a 4th trimester of holding, rocking and nurturing (this unique idea is the “ah-ha!” moment that helps new parents understand exactly what they need to do). The vision of this program is to strengthen the bond between parents and their children and to help them create happier, healthier, more loving families.
In this class you will learn new ways to calm crying and help your newborn baby sleep longer. You will learn about misconceptions of the reasons for colic and ways to help your baby calm. You will receive a copy of The Happiest Baby on the Block DVD as well as the White Noise CD for you to keep. These sessions can be delivered in the comfort of your home or in a classroom setting with other parents.
